School System

The Berrien County School District serves approximately 3,200 students in five schools: one primary school, one elementary school, one middle school, one high school and one charter school. Berrien County is home to one of the finest school districts in Georgia. The Berrien County School System’s mission is to achieve high levels of learning for all students in a safe and positive environment. We strive to prepare our students to be college and career ready. Our school system enjoys strong partnerships with businesses and higher educational institutions within close geographical proximity. There is tremendous support from community, parents and staff. Berrien County School District has earned SACS accreditation and Georgia Accreditation Association for all five schools.

The Berrien County District recognizes its obligation to the greater community to create an educational system that will encourage growth and prosperity, enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. We strive for continued improvement in the effectiveness of teaching and learning, as well as accelerated student achievement. Students at all schools within the district participate in instructional activities using a variety of technology tools and programs. Students at Berrien High and Berrien Academy have opportunities to apply for dual enrollment at local technical colleges and Valdosta State University, or they may take advantage of virtual courses, in addition to the classes traditionally offered on each campus.

All schools within the district have shown tremendous growth on standardized test scores. Writing scores for all tested grade levels continue to be among the highest in our area. Academic achievement of our students has earned awards at each of our schools. Berrien Elementary was recognized by the State Department of Education as a High Performing School for the 2013-2014 school year and Berrien Academy was recognized as a High Progress School. Berrien Middle School has also received High Progress School recognition in the recent past. Berrien High was recognized in US News and World Report in Education for the high percentage of students participating in Advanced Placement courses and exams. Student scores for End of Pathway assessments exceeded state and national averages in all areas for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years. Industry Certification has been earned in Animal Science, Plant Systems, Ag Mechanics, Healthcare Science, Business Science, and Broadcast Video Production. Additionally, the 2014-2015 participation in ACCEL for Berrien High is the highest in our region.

The Carrie Dorsey Perry Memorial Library

The Carrie Dorsey Perry Memorial Library is the Berrien County library and is an affialiate of the Coastal Plain Regional Library System. Library collections include popular fiction and nonfiction, magazines, audio books, and reference materials. The library also has several computers equipped with Internet service and word processing software for public use. They offer an extensive genealogy section, a meeting room that seats 60 comfortably, and copy, fax, and lamination services at a nominal fee.
